about me
“Out beyond ideas of wrongdoing and rightdoing there is a field. I'll meet you there.” (Jalaladdin Rumi)
The artistic space seems like a wonderfully safe space with the challenge of moving on a tightrope and at the same time diving in deep water. Exchange on all levels and the physical presence of collaboration give me a deep sense of meaningfullness.
Out of my interest in communication and perception in its manifold facets I develop projects incorporating interaction between different art forms. And with a passion for process-oriented work such, that emphasize Instant Composing.
Born and having grown up in Iran with a two year intermittent stay in Nepal, I have been living in Switzerland since 1979. Practices in music and visual arts led me to dance. After two years of studying at the arts school Basel I got my dance education at ch-Tanztheater Zurich. I hold a Master in Contemporary Arts Practise, Performance art (CAP, HKB).
I have been dancing in various contemporary companies and productions in Switzerland, Germany and Belgium, such as Cie Muriel Bader, zet-Tanztheater, Tina Mantel, cie n’est-ce pas, Tamuté Dance Company, Cie Denise Lampart, Angelika Aechter, Anna Heinimann and Lyn Bentschik in Zurich, Nelly Buetikofers Fasson Theater, Lachen, co.ainsi.danse, Bienne, Compagnia Vitale, Ticino, Tanztheater Renate Killmann in Freiburg i.Br., David Hernandez, Brussels.
I have been participating in site specific performances and dance videos with Hideto Heshiki, Salome Schneebeli and others.
I have been a member of x-group (instant composition research as performance form) since its founding in 2003.
During that time by the by I started creating my own works. I began asking questions about interaction of the artistic media on eye-level. Subsequently I developed projects in the interdisciplinary field, closing the cycle of my artistic background. Fixed choreography which dismantels a specific form as necessity in the due of a process, as well as the momentary re/acting Instant Composition as direct interaction and absolute presence in the now are parts of my interests and means of working. I explore multilayered facets of communication and perception and explore process-oriented approaches. I have created choreography, performative and installation pieces, short to evening long productions, solo and interdisciplinary projects.
I founded the fusion projects in 2008, which encompass works of interaction between different art forms. In that context also falls my inter-cultural project „instants“ on improvisation and Instant Composition between music and dance with artists in and from different cultural backgrounds. The research between music and dance was continued over several years in collaboration with Jan Schacher, teaching, performing, exchanging with artists abroad.
2019 I launched the Festival Instant Composition in Zurich in collaboration with the Zirkusquartier.
I have been teaching contemporary dance, movement, and improvisation / Instant Composition, and have done coaching for a number of productions.
Furthermore I have been practising and teaching Taiji Quan and Qi Gong, and have got a diploma in acupressure therapy, working in a praxis of my own.
"dance when you've broken open. Dance, if you've torn the bandage off. Dance in the middle of the fighting. Dance in your blood. Dance when you're perfectly free."
